AMEMR Workshops
Following request from previous AMEMR delegates, a series of workshops are planned for the Wednesday afternoon session of the conference.
An additional workshop “Shaping future research agendas” is offered by European Marine Board on Friday 7 July.
Workshops are free to attend but have limited capacity so please reserve your place early.
Places will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Hands-on modelling workshops
Play with ERSEM - Workshop full
ERSEM (European Regional Seas Ecosystem Model) is an ecosystem model of marine biogeochemistry and the lower trophic levels of the marine food-web. This hands-on workshop will introduce the latest version of ERSEM. All participants will be provided with the software to run ERSEM in a water column setting. They will be walked through running the model, visualizing its results, and customizing ecosystem structure and parameterisation to address specific scientific challenges. We will provide a number of case studies covering changing biogeochemical parameters, altering the food web by adding and/or removing species and functional types, and changing physical forcing to simulate climate change. The workshop does not require any prior knowledge of coding or modelling experience, and is open to scientists of any field. Limited to 10 people Workshop time: 2-3hrs Contact: Sevrine Sailley (PML) for more information “Ecopath with Ecosim" - touching base
This session will give a brief overview of Ecopath and Ecosim’s (EwE) latest features – especially around representing large scale forcing, such as climate drivers. The body of the session will then be dedicated to a discussion session for those working with EwE, providing an opportunity to connect and raise any challenges, allowing for brainstorming on how to best model a specific intricacy or process. There will also be a chance to chat about any collaborative projects or papers etc for the group to consider. Anyone new to EwE is also welcome. If they have any specific questions they’d like to raise please contact the session organizer ahead of time to make sure they’re covered. Contact Beth Fulton for more information Mentoring Session
If there is sufficient interest we will offer a mentoring session for early career scientists. This session will involve small group discussions with mentors. Along with relevant science discussions, mentors will offer advice on:
This event will most likely be a working breakfast to take place on the morning of the 4 July before the conference begins. Details to follow. |
